The theme of Wizball is unique. It is a horizontally-scrolling game, which involves navigating around a landscape and shooting at sprites. However, the aim of the game is to collect droplets of coloured paint to colour the level. Each level starts off as monochromatic, drawn in three shades of grey, and needs three colours to be collected to complete it.
The player, a wizard who has taken the form of a green ball, has access to three levels at a time, and can navigate between them through portals. Each level has droplets of a different primary colour which may be collected. At the same time, each level needs a different colour to be added, which can be composed by collecting sufficient quantities of the correct primary colours.

First post!
I'll definitely give this one a try since it looks and sounds quite fun. Plus, I haven't downloaded any C64 games thus far, so would like to break the ice with something good.

The first five minutes are always the hardest... because you have no power-ups and have to bounce around the first level until you can acquire the anti-grav. Then it rather falls into place. A tip: you can't be hit by bullets below the horizon (the grey area at the bottom).

That has to be one of the worst names for a video game that I've ever heard.

@ALDAWGZ
Who knows when the C64 will hit North America. I'd be surprised if it happened before 09. (if it happens at all)

President_Leever it's not really a Defender clone, although it does share some minor similarities.

Oh yes!!! I can't wait for this. Certainly one of the best games of all time. The gameplay mechanics are out of this world and it's a joy to play. Brilliant presentation and great fun all round.
As someone else mentioned, don't let the initial difficulty put you off as once you've got your first couple of power-ups it'll all make more sense and you can move around freely. You'll also need the "catellite" to collect colours and act as your wing man. Catellite can be hit several times and you don't lose a life when it dies. Hopefully the two-player co-op mode will be kept as that was one of the most innovative (and enjoyable) two-player modes ever. The sub-games in between levels are also great, with some mind-blowingly ludicrous!
As for being like Defender, in the sense that it's a sideways scrolling shooter is the sole comparison - the gameplay is totally different.
As for Wizball being a terrible name for a game, that's just the warped sense of humour of the Sensible Software boys. After all, the game is about a Wizard who travels around in a ball. Does exactly what it says on the tin!

May be worth a look. I'll have to read a review first, though.

Worth a look but I will mostly likely pass we need some REAL classic C64 games.

Venon, how can you say this isn't a real C64 classic, it's an incredible game! It's also one of the most innovative two player games of the era too. Have you ever played it, or are you just judging it off the screenshots?

This game isn't that great IMO.
