It’s up to you to defeat the Empire. It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since the Zetegenian Empire first conquered the Kingdoms of Zenobia with a wrath of fear and bloodshed.
You are the leader of a band of rebels who’ve fought to preserve the last shred of honor in this desperate time of treachery. Manage the ranks of a full-blown rebel army, complete with hundreds of characters, magic items, weapons and mystical Tarot cards. You must succeed in ousting the evil usurpers - your fate, and that of the entire population, depends on it.

Bass, it's not like the FFT games. Those are grid-based and turn-based. This is a real-time free-roaming strategy game. You essentially set commands to your various units and they all go on their way, getting into battles as they run into enemy units, etc. You can change their orders/destination at any time. Actions in battle take place automatically depending on the setup of your unit.

It's also much more complex. You have to balance your money well. If you spend too much buying supplies, you won't be able to pay your troops' salary and they'll leave you. Also, you have a reputation to consider, which is affected by your actions and I hear also affects the plot.
Too much thinking for me, so I never played it much.
Excellent music, though.

If I recall correctly, the sequel to this one (Tactics Ogre) was the one that played quite a bit like Final Fantasy Tactics. I've played my friend's Tactics Ogre, but I've always wanted to get my hands on it's predecessor. Even if it ends up being unfun, I'd definately buy a VC of this, if for nothing else but to compare and try something entirely different from what I consider a classic in Ogre Tactics. If we ever get OT, it may be the closest we'll get to having FFT on the VC, sadly.
But seriously, that opening bit asking the player's name, and the music........ thats FFT all the way. There MUST have been some inspiration there.

With another Square-Enix game that's supposedly brilliant so i'm not complaining and with little chance of Square-Enix trying to market a remake and instead put it on here, Win-Win. Glad to see we are getting more VC support from them.
I heard a rumour that Square-Enix's AAA Games like Chrono Trigger, Various Final Fantasy Games, including those that have been remade etc... will eventually be released on the VC, nearer the end of the Wii's lifespan when their latest remakes stop selling or sooner than that if they stop selling quicker. Sounds feasible to me, seeing as Square-Enix like to squeeze out our money with remakes and re-releases of their more obscure games that are seriously unlikely to sell if remade like this game and King's Knight for example. What do you guys think?

I rented this when I was very young and had to ask my neighbor what "liberation" meant, so I don't have fond memories of the game. I did think the tarot part was neat, though!

Very good game, and despite being in the same broad genre as titles like FF Tactics and Shining Force, it's got a number of unique features which set it apart. Great music too.

It'll take a few or several years, but Final Fantasy I through VI, Dragon Warrior series, and Chrono Trigger will certainly come to the VC soon. That rumor seems very plausable

From what I remember playing this on an emulator a few years back, it was a very cool game. If you're not into RTs type games, you mgiht want to pass on this. Otherwise, it's worth the points.

@marktheshark: You're dreaming. They're re-releasing all those games as full priced DS ports. Why would they sell them for cheap on VC? They only put out Secret of Mana because that's a franchise they've run into the ground, and I guess they don't have any plans to port it.
This sounds like it plays very similar to Ogre Battle 64. I didn't even know about this game, I'd only heard of the SNES Tactics Ogre that didn't get translated until the Playstation release. Hope it comes to NA/EU.

I heard the rumor from a friend, who said he saw it on a website (he didn't say which) that when the remakes of the games Square-Enix made stop selling, they'll try to make even more money by releasing them on the VC, which is certainly feasible

I agree that Square will probably put the Final Fantasy games on VC at some point. They are not making any money on the GBA ports now and I'm assuming the PSP remakes are slowly drying up in sales. And the typical Nintendo owner won't necessarily have a PSP too. So yeah, Square's reason that VC games are too cheap and that they make more money selling full price ports and remakes doesn't hold much weight now. If NES Final Fantasy 1 does appear on VC I imagine it will do very well indeed in terms of VC sales.

It's funny as all this Square-Enix talk gave me an itch for their games, so i went for some of their games on the cheap, all of which are awesome. I bought Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Revenant Wings. Tactics Ogre is great, so i may buy this game when released

Meh, this game looks incredibly boring to me. I nearly fell asleep watching the video. The battles look OK, but most of the game seems to be about wandering around on a map, picking up tarot cards, and liberating territories. Pass.

@ Popereal
I checked it out and the Gamecube controller works just fine.
I don't know why the shop channel claims that it's required to use a classic controller. Any other SNES game I've played on VC has always worked with classic or cube controllers. Ever since I bought the first SNES game on VC it gave you some crap about having to use a classic controller but I guess that's Nintendo's way of selling more classic controllers. They make you think it's required but it really isn't.

I don't understand why a SNES game wouldn't work with a Gamecube controller. No other SNES game was only playable with the classic. I don't know what the problem is but it's working for me and I've heard others say it does also. I don't know if it matters but I'm using a wireless wavebird.

@ Popereal.
The very bottom of the review page says despite the Wii shop stating that only a classic controller can be used you can also use the Gamecube controller so I'd say that should be enough proof. That's weird how the shop channel is giving people the wrong information.

Its refreshing to see rare titles getting a second chance such as Ogre Battle and MUSHA. This title may not appeal to everyone but I give Nintendo credit for releasing a game that up to now has been mostly unknown to the masses. Now we have a chance of actually seeing Ogre Battle 64 on virtual console and hopefully Soul Blazer as well!

Although I'll consider buying this I'll wait and see if they release the 64 game. Person of Lordly Calibur was the only rpg/strategy game that my friends would actually come over and play with me, though mainly because we gave all my unit leaders "unique" names.
