Donkey Kong Country 3 surprise!

Donkey Kong Country 3 surprise!

Many gamers in Europe and Australia were feeling left out when North America got Donkey Kong Country 3 for their Christmas Eve update. Don't worry Nintendo of Europe haven't forgotton you and have sneakily released it on Christmas day instead! Now stop your moaning! :-)

DKC3 is the final game in the DKC trilogy. The game was released late in the SNES's life, meaning a lot of people missed out on it. Now is the time to make up for that mistake, as it's a great game, although not as good as DKC2. Here's a secret - Enter your name on the file select screen as "MERRY" for a very Christmas-y experience!

YES!!!! I already thought that Nintendo couldn't release it because of the RARE-Microsoft copyright story...
Oh I'm very happy about this release which finally completes this great triology.
At the same time this still lets me hope on an eventual release of the Banjo Kazooie titles... :-D

Come on Nintendo... Bring'em out!! ;-)

Donkey Kong = Owned by Nintendo
Banjo-Kazooie = Owned by Rare (Who are owned by Microsoft)

i hope donkey kong 64 is next. but i fear the expansion pak may fall into the same category as the controller pak and rumble pak of things they can't/won't emulate.

Donkey Kong 64 should be good to go dude...the expansion pak was only a 4 megs of ram upgrade and the wii has much more than that

"i hope donkey kong 64 is next. but i fear the expansion pak may fall into the same category as the controller pak and rumble pak of things they can't/won't emulate."
Eh? They've already emulated the expansion pack successfully. How do you reckon they got Zelda: Majora's Mask to run on the Zelda Collectors edition disc. Before you mention glitches and crashes its highly probable those were caused by the fact the Gamecubes RAM couldn't fit Majora's mask and the RAM (Gamecube RAM is 32 MB Majora's Mask ROM + RAM =40MB) and so data would occasionally have to be loaded from disc.

27. 28 Dec 2007, 11:25 GMT

Just grand X-mas rip-off
they only give us one

i starting to dislike the VC updates, i think i won't be doing this for a very long time ... i just gives me stress when it suppused to relax me

I think you're a bit confused here. First of all, the Expansion Pak added 4MB to the Nintendo 64 RAM, totalizing 8MB of RAM, it didn't add to the amount of memory used by the game. Second, you don't need to have the same amount of memory that the game uses in RAM to be able to run it. Do you think CD-based consoles have 700MB of RAM? No, that's why you have caches and virtual memory. The PS had only 2MB of RAM and it could play CD-based games without glitches or crashes. If the N64 was able to run Majora's Mask with 8MB of RAM, why wouldn't the Gamecube be able to do the same thing with 32MB, which just happens to be the same size of Majora's Mask? To me, there was a problem with the emulation.

Abodi

but no friday update as usual. very disappointing.

Abodi

30. Abodi Australia 28 Dec 2007, 20:52 GMT

Hey also you guys realise that rare is now owned by themselves again, and not by microsoft now more. they bought back their freedom (just like in super paper mario)
so really any rare game should be fair game on the VC.

31. 28 Dec 2007, 22:24 GMT

yep Abodi , i say that we should take action :D

Starwolf_UK

VCGamer i'll keep it short.
"If the N64 was able to run Majora's Mask with 8MB of RAM, why wouldn't the Gamecube be able to do the same thing with 32MB, which just happens to be the same size of Majora's Mask? To me, there was a problem with the emulation. "
Because the N64 can access the data it can't load from a cartridge which is instant access.

The gamecube on the other hand has to spin a disc round until it reaches the right spot. Not so instant access to the required data. Not optimal so stick as much as you can inot the RAM as the RAM will be as fast as a cartridge (if not faster but thats irrelevent).

Its not so much about the RAM but keeping the access times low. If it takes too long you'll notice issues in-game which were not present in the cartridge versions. Which brings me to.

"To me, there was a problem with the emulation. "
I'm pleased you agree there was a problem. Like the stuttering of sound or even crashing you actually see in the game. Theres a whole internet out there describing those situations occuring. If it didn't happen to you considering yourself lucky.

Once again, given that the GC has 32MB of RAM, and Majora's Mask uses a memory unit of 32MB (which doesn't necessarily mean that it uses the whole 32MB), why wouldn't the game be loaded completely into RAM, and be executed there? Also, as far as I know, the Ocarina of Time port that came on the same disc doesn't have these problems (I might be wrong though), and the original OoT also uses a 32MB memory unit. So what's the difference?

My only grip about your original comment is that your blaming it on the amount of RAM not being enough, but I doubt that's the case. There's something else, and given that the only difference between OoT and MM is the expansion pak, I put the blame on that.

Is that just the parody of a post? I hope so, coz not only are DKC 1-3 great games, but they're also UK made.
