EU VC Releases - 1st February - Adventures of Lolo 2

Adventures of Lolo 2

Adventures of Lolo 2

The drought on new games coming to the Virtual Console continues for yet another week as Europe gets just one game today. We’ll try our best to smile because Adventures of Lolo 2 is a great game for anyone who likes puzzlers but we can’t help feeling a little disappointed at Nintendo’s lack of support for the VC of late.

Lolo and Lala are back in this sequel to the popular puzzle game Adventures of Lolo. On their return from the Haunted Castle, the Great Devil kidnaps Lala and challenges Lolo to rescue her again. Now he must take on the challenge of the Great Devil's Tower and Castle mazes. Fortunately, Lala was able to analyze each of the mazes as she was taken to the tower and left clues in the Jewel Boxes in each room. Each Jewel that Lolo collects contains information that will help him in the next room.

In order to succeed, he'll also have to push tiles, pick up Heart Framers, temporarily turn enemies into Eggs with his Magic Shots and ward off enemy attacks by moving Emerald Framers. With your help, Lolo and Lala will work together to escape the Great Devil's clutches and defeat him.

GRRR,,,,
Europe and Australia always get the short end of the stick, nothing new to play on my wii, nothing new to play on VC, i am domed to play mt old ones, not bad, as all my games are awesome ones, but i have finished a great deal of them.

C'mon Nintendo honestly, by the time most of the games are released at this rate, it will be 2014...

Brill game. But it really does annoy me that the states got SSFII and AOL 2 in ONE WEEK! And it's taken us two! :x

Anyone else reckon that they're stalling because they can't top the Wii?

So they're trying to make the VC last 10 years, so that they don't have to make a new console for 10 years?

wow. one NES game. sure its a good game but there's no variety. either you like puzzlers or you lose for this week. I actually think we would be more excited about Lolo 2 if there were two crappy games released today as well. i hope its sega week next week.

i think i'll end up buying some SNES game or N64 game with my 1000 points i have.

In all fairness, I can see where Bass is coming from in the lack of variety. Still, if you like puzzlers, you'll love Lolo. Give it a chance, they're both great games :)

Jeepers. Not a great week, even if it is a solid game. Disappointing.

Demon212, you joke, but you might be on to something there. Perhaps Nintendo have decided that the Wii has more lifespan than they originally thought, so they're slowing things down a bit?

DEMON212

7. DEMON212 United Kingdom 31 Jan 2008, 23:33 GMT

Kelvin. It wasn't a joke. Per-se. Here I was having a laugh and carry on, but...

I've thought since day 1, the Wii will either fail, or be the best thing ever.

If it fails, Ninty dies.

If it's the best thing ever.

Ninty dies.

I'm not saying that they will die, but Ninty may have done something TO good. Because what the hell can they do to top it?

Same with NDS. That's what made me think this. That's it's been 3 years now, and still no DS successor (SP) has started to crop up.

I've heard about some sort of strike going on in America that involves TV Shows, but why does something like that have to happen to our Wii Shop Channels too? I love Nintendo and all, but i hope they have an explanation or a surprise for us in the future!

You know what? I put 5000 points on my Wii a while ago, thinking that I'd be able to just buy the great games when they came out. Since nothing that has tickled my fancy has come out, I'm gonna fritter away my last few points on some older games and then probably give up on the VC for a while.

There's no point in getting excited about the game(s) that arrive on Thursday evenings anymore if you're just after a small handful of games and are waiting for them to come out. At this rate, it'll probably be months, maybe years, before I see the likes of Metal Marines or Unirally... :'(

I've bought a lot of games that I've taken a chance on, and while there's been a few gems, the majority of them I've not enjoyed that much. Now I just want the ones I'm waiting for or I'm not really interested...

Wait! If i do recall, all of these weeks of 1 or 2 games were in January right? Well, maybe if we just believe in ourselves (pure luck) February can change the amount of games per week (or at least get back to normal). I mean Nintendo is a company that wants to obviously make money right? So yeah!

Lolo 2 is a wonderful game, but it's a bit of a kick in the pants to get it as the only game this week.

I don't think they're stalling so they can make their games last for ten years -- I think they're slowing down to make sure they can secure some more consoles and license games from other companies. If they can't, then they'll need to curb the pace. If they can, then they can start throwing a variety of mostly crappy games at us again. :)

I hear what you are saying. I have bought 41 games in all, but I only decided to keep 17 on my actual Wii system, the others I deleted. I have tried many games that I've missed out on when I was younger, but most are good for a quick play or two and thats it. Now I don't even bother to try a game that I never heard of, because usually I get ripped off. I'm only going to wait for the classics that I want. Hope we get Super Smash Bros. Monday.

DEMON212

Alex and Mike, goto the forums and check my video reviews. They might help :)

Joghurt.

Out of the 6 current consoles, there are over a thousand games. MSX, MS/GG, C64 and others are coming to the VC.

1 a week isn't so much a slowdown, as it is a dead stop.

They could easily release 3 a week for 5 years and still have plenty to spare.

I wonder how the US will fare this Monday...

Maybe they'll let us play catch up and we can get some Mega Man games, Super Picross or Harvest Moon...

We'll probably get Skate or Die...

The Lolo games are good but getting a sequel to a puzzle game after waiting a week for something new...

Sucks to be European.

v404

19. v404 United States 01 Feb 2008, 04:33 GMT

You know, this thread inspired me to do some research. So here are the total number of games by nintendo platform that were made for North America.

NES total games = 810
SNES total games = 750
N64 total games = 387

Now, let's assume half of those titles will never see the light of day on the Wii for various reasons (licensing, etc.) Then, let's be conservative & assume that half of those won't be released (Wii's longevity, licensing & misc, etc.) Subtract the current number of titles released for those consoles in North America & you get 387. Divide that by 52 weeks in a year & you get 7.44 years... Which is more than the average life expectancy of today's consoles. So hypothetically, at the rate of 1 NES, SNES, or N64 VC release a week, it would be nearly 8 years before the well ran dry. That's not even considering other platforms or Japan-Only Nintendo games which add a considerable amount as well.

But who knows, maybe Nintendo is trying to milk the Wii for everything it's worth (can you blame them, really?) & try to extend it's lifespan. I doubt it but you can't rule out the possibility.

I don't know about Overseas but Wii Consoles are still hard to come by in here the US. Every retailer I ask says they believe it will be like that for the duration of the system's tenure... They're literally in that much demand. I have yet to find any retailer that even offers a "waiting list". They all say that so few are received per shipment (3 or 6) that a list is pointless. "EBay is the waiting list." And go see how much Wii's are going for there... You'd be amazed considering it's a year old & you can get any competitor's technically superior Console at a POS for MSRP or less!

Those are some impressive stats for the most technically deficient Console on the market. So when you consider that there are people out there still pining for a Wii, it doesn't seem that preposterous of a plan... Though, I still find a more sophisticated Wii successor most probable.

Regardless, even as a cynic, 1 Nintendo console game a week is hardly a greedy request.. So I think the 2 or more games per week expectation is warranted. Especially considering their audience can only grow.

Jogurt the Yogurt

20. Jogurt the Yogurt Canada 01 Feb 2008, 05:31 GMT

Demon, I know there are plenty of games, but my point is that there are significantly fewer first party games that don't involve some kind of licensing agreement. Nintendo can't bank on being able to release all of those puppies, and they probably want to keep pace with what they control until they know they can do otherwise. This is speculation, of course, and by no means meant to excuse one-game weeks.

I want tons of games as much as the next guy, but my point is that Nintendo doesn't owe anyone anything other than what they're giving us.

C'mon Nintendo the jokes over, it's not funny anymore. I'm fed up of the lack of new VC releases, so much so in the last week I've bought a Japanese Saturn and a PC Engine Duo R. In protest at the lack of VC releases I am refusing to eat grapes for 24 hours!

I'm beginning to wonder if the VC will still be around this time next year, are Nintendo rethinking the idea?
I have a plan, everybody who has points in reserve spend them, then by the law of sod loads of games you really want will appear.

28. Steve! Finland 01 Feb 2008, 10:47 GMT

It sucks to get only one game a week. I've been thinking about it though. Nintendo is going to run out of old games at some point. There will be a new console after the Wii. Nintendo can't expect us to buy all our old games again and they need something to sell us. Nobody is going to pay €5,- for Mario 1 again on the Wii 2 (especially considering a PsOne game costs the same and can be played on both PSP and PS3). The only thing they can do is start selling Cube games (like MS since they don't have any real classic games) and/or stretch releasing real classics as long as they can.

Even so, that doesnt mean Ninty cant release loads of games. I'm fed up with the VC list too, Nintendo need to re-think their strategy, its so blatant people want the games. Hell, id' spend a grand on it if it meant every game i wanted became available.

Its about time they realised they dont have to make people wait as long as they are making us, It only means people will move to other means of playing the games! theyre going to lose money big time if they dont pull their act together, and soon!

I agree Wedge. This is rubbish Nintendo. If you only release one game next week, make it a good one, that will appeal to the majority of potential buyers... On the other hand, with all the 'seconds' coming through, we should be getting about 5 decent games next week... (yeah right)!

I'm about at my breaking point here. One of the best features of the Wii was Virtual Console and this slow down in releases is single handedly ruining it. Sure the games they've been releasing have been above average, although not particularly of interest to me, but there are countless potential releases. Nintendo, you better start picking up the pace right NOW!!! And where the hell is Super Mario RPG?!

I'm seriously considering taking this site off my bookmarks list. Not because it's not a great site, but because I'm sick and tired of all the whining comments from a bunch of spoiled brats who want everything RIGHT NOW. If there was a way to turn off comments, I'd be all over that.

First they started releasing titles 3-4 at a time, but everyone whined that they were crappy. There were even comments that you'd rather get 1 GOOD game a week rather than 4 bad ones. Well, now that 2008 is here apparently Nintendo has decided to do exactly that, and guess what... EVERYONE'S STILL WHINING!

I have literally NEVER seen a week of Wii releases where someone didn't have something to complain about, US and Europe gamers alike. It gets really old after awhile.

Have you guys considered that maybe, just maybe, you don't NEED a brand new game to play every single week?? I haven't even managed to get through half of the games I bought last year, and have had to slow down my purchases to give myself more time to do so. Because of that, there are several great games available on the service currently that I don't yet own and am looking forward to playing after I've had my fill of the current ones eating up my Wii's memory. I can't believe that you guys seriously are finding a lack of games to play. According to this site, there are 205 games available between NA and EU. Have you seriously bought them all? Even if only half of those are good ones, you've still got over a hundred games to play!

Maybe Nintendo should move to a monthly release schedule, so they can release 4 games at once and they'll all be at least decent, if not all great... maybe that would shut people up -- but more likely they'd just whine about how long they'll have to wait for the next batch......

DEMON212

Waxxy.

Everyone's different, so of course you're gonna get someone complaining about releases.

I have actually downloaded a game or two, or three, almost every week.

I never once said I'd rather have 1 over 4 myself. Because while everyone's whinging and complaining about the games we didn't get, I'm buying and playing the games we did.

And I've found out, that there's ALOT of REALLY GOOD! Games out on the VC.

Infact, the reason I've started complaining, is 'cause I can't stand 1080, and Harvest Moon.

I want my 3-4 unknown unpopular games a week back. Because releasing 1 big title, sucks. And the game they release usually does too.

I really wish people would just shut up about about Mario RPG, and Final Fastasy, and Mega Man, and just buy something else!

Harvest came out, I bought Blades Of Steel, both Air Zonk's and more.

1080> Battle Lode Runner, Lolo 1, Balloon Fight, Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun and then Lolo 2 when it hit.

F-ZERO X and Wave Race I own on my N64. So when they hit, I bought Ristar, Sonic and Sonic 2, etc...

Get my point?

How come its every holiday period (xmas-january) that the VC seems to dry up? Last time I checked, thats when people WANT more games to play instead of 1 game which may not even appeal to them. I know I wasnt jumping over the moon for Harvest Moon SNES because I dont enjoy life sim style games. I'm actually missing the weeks where were a 2D beat em up, an on rails shooter and a sports game (usually from the Trubo Graphix or NES) in a weeks release.

It's why I bought an N64 back.

Bensei

60. Bensei Austria 02 Feb 2008, 19:55 GMT

What would be the reason to NOT put it on? Just because Brawl is better? There are many things you don't have in Brawl anymore, like stages and Items. Then you have German voice acting, but since you're Britain you won't recognise that. Besides that many Gamers missed it and want to see how it all started or just have a nostalgic feeling and want to buy it.

DEMON212

61. DEMON212 United Kingdom 03 Feb 2008, 02:13 GMT

Reason not to put it on. It'd be another 1 release week. And when most SSBB wanters still own SSBM, then that's a pretty wasted week.
