Congrats on getting Super Smash Bros., Europe! I hope this compensates for the lack of VC updates that occurred the last couple of weeks.

And now starts the hype train for SSB release this Monday in NA. I hope the train doesn't get derailed. =P

Crap I was pretty excited until I realized this was for Europe. It better not take forever to get this in America. I've never owned the original game. It will be strange going back to this after playing Melee and Brawl but it will be nice to finally have all three.

i still have this on cartridge but i've also been wanting this on the VC

God dammit! Where the hell is Gradius? Wasn't it rated already ages ago? Dammit! Instead we get some kind of GameCube port and a ridiculously overhyped budget title that has been improved upon in a big way since... Twice...

Hopefully that means it will come out next Monday in the U.S. It's high time for America and Europe to finally get this game after Japan has had it for months!

All these cool games are coming out when my HDTV isn't working, can't wait for the weekend as I will be picking up a new Plasma!

I am so unsure about weather i want Smashbros. or not. I mean it was a great game, and it still is. But i dont think any of my friends will wnat to play multiplayer with me if i got it, because they will want to play brawl. I might hold off a little.
Besides, i have other things i would rather spend points on, like Cavestory, and Samuri Toaster, later this month.

this is my favorite game because it has the best levels, more powerful attacks (the grab moves actually do damage) and the Items are the best of all of the games. the multiplayer is king, and the single player is pure fun.

P.S. Kirby has strong attacks on this game <(o_o)>FTW!!!

Wow Europe, I honestly don't see how you can complain about VC right now. So what if you had a few weeks with nothing? You'd probably get the mediocre offerings we got. In exchange (not literally of course), you get Majora and SSB before us. Not that I want either, but I don't see how you guys can complain.

SSB64 = Instant download indeed. People keep bashing it but the fact of the matter is: the nostalgic factor is high, the slapstick humor is great, the levels are enjoyable, multiplayer is timeless, and the replay value is pretty good. This is my favourite Smash Bros. game. So enjoyable. I'm gonna play this like crazy when it does come here and given that Majora's Mask came soon after EU got it, I got a feeling we'll get this Monday or the Monday after that. At least, I hope so.

You'd probably get the mediocre offerings we got.
A few of us are green with envy over those Koei stratagy games (I'm green with envy...for a different issue, a speed related one).

Finally! One of my most anticapated games is coming to Europe! It won't be long before Americans see it! I'll give it 7 weeks to arrive before even complaining about it not being here yet. Even if Super Smash Bros. is the only game we get when it's released, if it gets at LEAST an 8/10, that's enough to make it an good week for me.

As generous as they were with the extra content in the Smash Bros. sequels, the actual fighting has never been as satisfying as in the original. The random chaos of Melee & Brawl is great, but sometimes you just want to go into the options, turn things off and take it back to basics; a pure battle of skills.
The brilliance of Smash Bros. is that everyone can use the attacks (they're mapped to single buttons instead of complex combinations), but it's how, when and where you use them that counts.
Also, I used Kirby all the time, whereas I mostly use Link in Melee & Brawl.

Anyhoo, call me greedy, but I WAS in the mood for another VCA game.

it says on wikipedia that SSB64 is coming to the NA VC in 2009 but the month and day is not confirmed yet. my response:YES! YES!

If this does come out in america I'll pass on it. I didn't really think too much of this game when it 1st came out, and besides, I have brawl & like that one much better.

So how does this differ from Melee? I understand that Brawl is far different from even Melee, but is there anything that makes the original unique?

Well I knew they are taking forever with Super Smash Bros 64 for some reason!

Since after Majora's Mask came out, which I was eagerly awaiting for this entire time; I just now don't care when SSB64 comes out! But now since Nintendo is done take their own sweet time; I'm betting every drop of rum I got that SSB64 will be our N64 game for the month of June... or July if they make us wait longer!

Be it may though; let's not get our hopes up if we see SSB64 VC game for June 15! If not let's not panic & get so upset! So let's cross our fingers & pray to Nintendo (instead praying to God); that they release SSB64 sooner than expected this time!
But by June 15th, if we do get dissapointed; the VC game may as very well be a game we know we don't all want... be it SimEarth also is pending for a June release!
If something like that happens & we don't get SSB64 on June 15th; then I'll let out my Biggest OH BUGGER! LOL!
Which also leave the possibility that SSB64 could also come out on June 22 or 29 for us long time NA hardcore gamers who have been waiting far too long enough, BTW!

Looks like a really meh update, only one WiiWare and it's bad. I have absolutely no interest in SSB considering I just got Brawl. I'd trade SSB for Eduardo no matter how Eduardo turns out because I have no need for an obsolete version of a fighting game.

i agree with above poster, also i hate fighting games so just about any n64 game would have made me alot happier, considering how rare these n64 games for some reason seem to be.

They better put something else up monday besides this game. Melee and Brawl are MUCH better!

@STarfox-SSB is not mediocre at all. In fact, fighting-wise its my fav of all 3. It just doesnt hjave the depth of modes, unlockables, characters, that the others do.

OK, well I just want a full comparison before I spend $10 on it.

Super Smash Bros was one of my favorite N64 games, Melee was probably one of the most played games on my Gamecube. Brawl however, is a monstrosity that emulates the one good thing about Brawl (the fighting mechanics) and throws in a WHOLE bunch of garbage no-one really wants and fails to do the one thing everyone wanted right, which is on-line play. Anyone who rates Brawl over Melee has issues - serious issues.

For once, I'll be buying new VC and WiiWare this week.

SSB 64 and Asphalt instadownloads, so that's great. BUT where the frack is Icarian, Watergun and Overturn ffs!? Aaarrrggghhh!

Hmm. Not really sure if I'll be getting Smash Bros 64. I don't really see the point considering it's basically just a stripped down version of Brawl now.

I agree that simpler games are more fun. They don't have the overwhelming and often confusing features that their successors do. This is why I'm glad many of these new games offer Gamecube controller support. It makes it simpler that way.

BTW: Brawl does have online mode, if you've forgotten.

Ultimately, I still won't be getting this as Melee works fine as a simpler SSB.

I would rather see Super Mario Kart available on Monday than Super Smash Bros 64. Although it would be awesome if we got both games on Monday. Nintendo would never do that though. =( Oh well.

And besides, not everything has to be online to be enjoyable. In the good old days on the 64, I played SSB64 with friends all around the screen and that's how I plan to play it nowadays as well. No amount of poorly-integrated online in Brawl is ever going to match 64's timeless appeal and multiplayer enjoymentm

Well, Calculon, I must have issues as I think Brawl is the superior game to Melee - by far!

It's not just the fighting I love, it's all the unlockables, the nostalgia and all the endless video game references. I've had the game nearly a year now and I'm still unlocking things. Melee was a great game too, but it's only half the game Brawl is. Now I hope no one is going to give me technical fighting game reasons as to why Melee is superior because it's Smash Bros, not Virtua Fighter - random items and feature filled stages are what it's all about.

Why is everyone bashing SSB64 so much? Yeah Brawl and Melee may be superior, but this one is such a pure classic. I'll definately be downloading it instantly.

@madgear: I agree with you on the unlockables being fun. That's one of my favorite features in many video games: unlockables. The idea of working your ### off just to unlock a new character or feature. I just unlocked Baby Daisy and Funky Kong in Mario Kart Wii a couple days ago. Still working on Baby Wigi, Bowser Jr., Mii B, and Dry Bowser.

Concerning Brawl, it took me a few months to unlock most of it, but a year later I'm still unlocking tracks. My most recently unlocked tracks are Mach Rider (Melee) for the F-Zero Brawl stage (defeat fifty enemies in Endless Brawl) and Multi-Man-Melee menu 2 for the Battlefield stage (win Hundred Man Brawl in under 4:00). I still don't have all the tracks! What am I missing? That's what I love about Brawl, so much to enjoy.

SSB is hardly anything to gloat about when Melee and Brawl are 100 times better. SSB is probably the most horrendously aged game of all time, and soon many of you who insist on dropping $10 on something that shouldn't even have been re-released will find this out.

He he, another one off the checklist. And you know, I´m actually buying an Earthbound cart. Once I´ve done that the game is sure to be avaliable on VC anyday. I´m doing it all for you!

The gameplay is still as accessible and fun as it ever was, and that's surely what counts.
Sure, it's a little bare bones next to its' sequels, but what's here is good (It has Kirby, Link and Captain Falcon, the characters I use most in ALL Smash games) and graphically, well...it was a bit ugly (or rather, simplistic) looking when it came out, but for good reason (See also: F-Zero X).

I never played this on N64, and I dont think I could download it now. Those screen shots, especially the one of Samus and Yoshi, look absolutly terrible. I'm sure it plays great, but I just could not stick looking at those graphics. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this, so congrats, but not for me thanks!

I agree: the graphics are horrid! Fox has a big head! Samus looks like she should be on the box, not in the game. Yoshi looks awful also. Link and Pikachu are ok, but I agree, I wouldn't be able to tolerate such horrendous graphics.

The graphics of some Commodore 64 games? Those could pass as "horrid" more so than SSB64. That's a big exaggeration you're setting up there. But graphics don't always make a game as MANY a games on the Virtual Console prove (again, going back to C64 games like Boulder Dash for example).

I've been wanting to play this again for ages.
My dad sold my N64 along with my games years ago in a yard sale.
I hope we don't have to wait to long for this to show up in NA.

@ starfox, this isn't anything like melee, brawl is similar to melee, but this is a completely different game as far as multiplayer and control physics go.

Dang, i was hoping we wouldn't get SSB, and that the Hanabi Festival would start this week. Looks like it'll be another 1 or 2 weeks until something interesting comes out on VC.

My dream came true.
Now I can legally play this monstrously good game on my TV instead on an emulator on the PC.

The best would've been if they added ...online multiplayer and it would all be set.

Let's hope Nintendo doesn't wait 5 months to bring it to the states.
