Hello I'm hoping someone can help with my problem. My switch doesn't charge anymore so I replaced the battery with a new one. Now my problem is that when I have new battery connected and plug in charger the copper attached to fan and cpu gets really hot. Is this common? I don't have the big heat sink on and Switch is open.

@BRONIN Instead of doing it yourself you should have contacted Nintendo and set up a repair. I suggest contacting them still but they may charge you for the repair now because you did it yourself.

If you're referring to the long piece that leads to the vent at the top of the console, that's all part of the heatsink. It's designed to draw heat away from the chips, so it's supposed to get hot. Obviously it won't be able to dissipate the heat as well as it should without the metal cover plate on as well, so unless it's getting hotter than it was before then it might not be anything to worry about

@CinnamonRobin thanks for the reply. Is it suppose to get hot while it's off and charging?

All rechargeable batteries get warm when they charge. Especially if it's a new battery that is completely discharged.

@rockmanx7290 thanks for the reply.

The new battery isn't getting hot. The switch is off and the copper heat sink gets hot. No burning smell.

@BRONIN Is it an OEM battery? Off-brand batteries are generally not a good idea and could draw more than intended, overheat and potentially bulge/explode/catch fire. I would strongly suggest contacting Nintendo about a potential repair/replacement (if you haven't already).
