Lace up your cleats and step onto the diamond with the pros of Baseball Stars 2. You'll find everything you'd expect in a classic game of baseball, but with an arcade feel and intense action that distinguish it from the pack. Pick one of six unique teams from cities around the world, then get ready for nine innings of excitement, whether you're taking on the computer in a 15-game tournament or squaring off against a friend. There are two modes of game play, so even the most inexperienced player can compete at the major-league level (with a little computer-aided fielding). Read More »
Watch as the game develops through split-screen views and close-up shots worthy of any highlight film, and see if you can catch the numerous over-the-top animations of the large and detailed player models. Think you have what it takes to win the pennant?

There are so many more interesting Neo Geo games, so why do they announce this? Where's Metal Slug und Windjammers for example?

Metal Slug is already on the Wii - SNK have reportedly said they are not interested in putting the Metal Slug series on the Virtual Console as well. SNK are appearing to be concentrating on their very early games to start with (Baseball Stars 2 originally appeared in 1992), Windjammers appeared in 1994. Probably be a while before we see that game.

But I'd still love to see all Metal Slugs playable with the Classic Controller or with the Cube pad's D-pad.

It's called having an opinion.
And in our opinion, many of the sports titles released on the VC don't really stand the test of time.
I wouldn't go getting your knickers in a twist about it, though.

How does this game compare to the NES version? Can you still create a team, hire and fire players and increase their attributes like the NES versions?

Back in the day my pals and I probably spent 10 bucks a day on this game at the arcade. The graphics, quick gameplay, and control are all intact as far as I can tell. I have to say it has not aged as well as I would have liked. Still a good game, though.

I just got this game and was disappointed b/c it's NOT as good as Baseball Stars 1 for NES. No player creation, and the screen is way too flashy. The faces are all chewing gum or moving around, there's way too much going on. still it's a decent game, but I wish they'd come out w/ the original, too.

This game is ok but I agree the NES version would have been a better choice.
Subpar games? What about Metroid, Super Metroid, Bomberman, Zelda, Gradius 3, Castlevania, Punch-Out!!...lots of good games. The thing I don't like is that they've released 2 versions of Street Fighter so far but not the right one and they release the Mario games separate when they should just release Super Mario All-Stars!

As a Scotsman, baseball means about as much to me as my ex-girlfriend. But seeing all these positive comments above, I decided to give Baseball Stars 2 a go. The comments above are justified: this is excellent!
However...it's only baseball. Let's not get carried away here, it's not like its ISS 64 or anything!

AHHHHHH!!!!
First of all, I want to shout from a mountaintop, NEOGEO ON VC DOES NOT SUPPORT 480P!!!
I use a projector that has discrete interlaced and progressive scan inputs, and others have HDTV's that have the same conundrum: we have to unplug our Component cables and plug in the composite cable set in our Wii each time we want to play Baseball Stars 2 or any other NeoGeo game. Oh and lest I mention if you have wires for a projector running through your ceiling or floor, and only have three leads for Component video, you'll probably want to run ANOTHER for the single coaxial RCA signal off of the composite cable. THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE!!
SNK, I will not buy a SINGLE other NeoGeo title, despite my KILLER enthusiasm for the system on the Virtual Console, until this is fixed.
That said, after going through the reaching, fiddling and fumbling around my unwieldy system setup to change these cables over EAACH AND EVERY TIME, Baseball Stars 2 is a pretty frickin' fun game.
Just like Metal Slug, it OOZES with life and character. LOVE IT!!
SNK just does the art and the characterization so well. In fact, I think I love Baseball Stars 2 more than Metal Slug on that particular point.
Gameplay is very simple to the point of getting a little boring after a while. Too simple. Great for a kid, no doubt. Not very deep gameplay, the most exciting moments you'll have are trying to flash-decide which base to throw the ball to when you take control of your outfielder.
Other than that, not a slog through or anything, it's an enjoyable pastime game with a lot of character and a frenetic visual pace. Would buy again.
THANK YOU VC-REVIEWS.COM FOR THE GREAT SITE! MUCH APPRECIATED!

Not sure whether NeoGeo games support 480p or not but I own 40" Samsung HDTV and haven't had to change from component to composite cables despite playing Baseball Stars 2 with my Wii set to display at 480p. You've probably already tried this Sirmatt but go into your Wii menu before you fire up a NeoGeo game and set your display output back to 480i. Otherwise, sorry for your bad luck.

Peppy (Thanks Fox!!),
Yeah it's just my projector and certain HDTV's that have this problem. Your input ports support and can auto-switch between 480i and 480p. Mine cannot, they are discrete on my InFocus X1 projector, which is a few years old.
There are, however, plenty of people out there that have this problem with slightly older HDTV's and so on.
Even having to switch between the two settings shouldn't have to happen. This is a fun system, not a pain-in-the-ass system.
Still sucks, still won't be buying a single other Neogeo game (however much I would love to download KOF '94 right now) until it supports what is should have in the first place. 480p should have been enforced by Nintendo, really no excuses, especially when all other systems, old and new, and especially "of the era" of the Neogeo, support it on the VC.

@Roo- Yes, a Snk Arcade Classics will include all the games that are already here for download, except Blue's Journey....cricket. I recommend, for 9 buckazoids to try out one of the games that will come for the collection, since the launch date is at 4/29/08 for most of the stores.
I did download this one and its an arcade fast paced version of baseball, better yet if you have a home theater to crank the volume when he says quote Drake: "..."B-B-B-B-B-B-B-Baseball Staaaars Twoooo!"" unquote. The computer is pretty difficult. Highly recommended.

This game is excellent. The gameplay is top-notch and nothing like other baseball title even by today's standards. I personally couldn't find much depth, though.
Sadly, due to storage limitations, this one is off the mini-fridge until Nintendo announce a storage solution (not the cheap excuse announced at the Tokyo Games Show).

Having never played this or any other NEO-GEO console game, and with my only exposure to NG games being a few of their arcade fighters, I decided to give this a try. I have to say it's pretty decent; very fast-paced, often funny and fairly challenging.
It's not quite up to par with my favorite baseball game of all time, Ken Griffey, Jr. Presents Major League Baseball on the Super NES. Of course with all the licensing involved there, I have little doubt that classic will never make it to the Virtual Console.
I'd give Baseball Stars 2 a 7 out of 10.
