Sky Kid (NES)

Game Profile

Red Baron, from the freedom and peace-loving nation of birds, Bird Land, faces off in the skies with his rival Blue Max in this side-scrolling shooting game. Defeat the many enemies that await you as you complete your mission, using moves like the loop-the-loop to shoot down enemies from behind. Fly low to pick up bombs placed in the stage and drop them on command posts, warships or other designated targets to destroy them. Then land safely at base to proceed to the next mission. Read More »

Beware of enemy fire, though - it will cause you to crash, unless you’re able to recover by rapidly pressing the buttons. You can even play with a second person and fly simultaneously, sometimes helping each other and other times competing against each other. Prepare yourself and take to the skies, but make sure that the catchy background music (which became an instant classic when this game was originally released) doesn’t distract you from your goal.

Sky Kid is a NES port of the arcade game with the same name. You play as the Red Baron or Blue Max, both famous World War I pilots. Your mission is to fly through hordes of enemy formations, pick up a bomb, and drop it on the enemy's headquarters or main..

Super Fantasy Zone (Also coming soon) was also developed by Sunsoft, so we should be seeing more Sunsoft games soon.

Haha, I love the American cover art. So incredibly unfitting for such a cute game.
Never was a big fan of this, though. It's okay-ish.

when i was a young kid, i used to play games based on the packaging artwork alone. if it looked cartoony, I'd play it. if it looked grown up and serious, i wouldn't.

This is suposed to be 'The Legendary Red Baron'?! If the late Herr von Richthofen could see this he'd do barrel-rolls in his grave, I tell you :(

Even in times of the NES there would have been better way to honor WW1's reckless heroes in theyr flying coffins.

Well, the Red Baron didn't bomb the Statue of Liberty or fight off Alien UFOs, did he? This is a very fun game, unconcerned with the realities of war and aerial combat.

Well, I don't know about UFOs (maybe 'foo-fighters' were not only a phenomena of WW2?), but I think it's safe to say that no hunting airplane in WW1 was able to cross the atlantic ocean to attack Lady Liberty on it's own.

One of my favorite NES (and arcade) games... I remember playing this with my dad quite a bit as a kid. I think I'll be getting some points later today to get this guy.

Horrible review, I usually agree but this is horrible. Game should have 4/5 stars.

You're fine to disagree with my score, but all reviewers here pretty much agree that this game isn't worth it anymore.

This is one of those many titles that if you played it as a kid, you'll have fond memories of it today. However if this is your first time playing it.....you'll probably find that it seems dated and repetitive.

I just discovered that there are 26 different levels, and if you destroy the mother ship on the final stage you get a "happy ending." Levels 8,16, and 24 are the bonus target levels.

Also there is a hidden continue feature. After you die, if you hold left and down on controller two at the title screen and hit start on controller one, you'll start from the last level you died on.

This review did not do this game justice. I had so much fun playing this game with my dad or a friend. It is a fun arcade game that is one of the better 2 player co-op experiances that doesnt take up your whole afternoon. The music is damn catchy though. It is a good laugh when your buddy crashes into the enemy base or ship!

Unless you just have fond memories of this from the 8-bit era, you'd probably better pass. This game gets repetitive very quickly. I think a 2/5 was fairly generous. And this is coming from someone who actually owned this game back in the NES days. :)

I disagree with the review!!!
It's my fave Namco game (ya, thats right, more than Pac-Man), and it plays perfectly, has unique ideas, and is loads of fun.
