Those dirty rotten scoundrels of MAD magazine have appeared in three different games on umpteen different games systems, and now the original classic game of underhand dirty tricks and cunning finally makes it to the Nintendo!
There are eight missions-worth of espionage terror on offer in the NES conversion. In all of them the object is remarkably simple. A selection of top secret items have been secreted around a complex and it's the player's job to get in there and retrieve them. Each mission has a different map layout to conquer and the size of the complex increases on each level. Read More »
The task of spying sounds pretty simple and indeed it is. The problem is, there's another spy in the complex with exactly the same mission in mind. It's a good thing you packed your trapulator in your spying trousers, and you can use the traps it contains to keep your opposite number at bay.
Each level has a strict time limit, so you have to retrieve those items and find the getaway plane before the complex goes the way of the dodo. There's only one winner (and one getaway vehicle) in this game, so make sure it's your spy who has the last snigger as you leave the opposition to their doom!

Was this the only spy vs spy to come out on console. I remember having the island one which I liked much better on my amiga. If that one comes out too I'll be more than happy.

Spy vs. Spy has been on Several Commodores and Ataris before the NES. So yeah, it was on Amiga.

The island one came out on the Famicom in Japan, so perhaps it will get localised.

The Spy vs. Spy for the C64 was ten-times better than this one could ever hope to be; despite the lacking graphics.
There were more traps, more rooms, equal footing in terms of weapons and overall it just looked more polished.

the NES and C64 versions are the same. no differences apart from the title screen. even the music on NES is the same and as catchy as on the C64.
there were spy vs spy 2: tropical island and spy vs spy 3: north pole.
all three were available on C64.
didn't know there were two games on NES.
did the 3rd installment come out on famicom too?

@SCkkKatTTrrRrbrain
That isn't true, the NES version of Spy vs. Spy featured larger sprites and a lesser assortment of traps. Unlike the C64 version, where the Spies could utilize their 'poles' n' either poke or bap eacother on the head - each one is equipped with a different weapons in this particular version.
If memory serves, the white spy had an umbrella; while the black spy had a knife - the former of which had longer range and made it nearly impossible to lose in a fight.
I'll stick to my ol' Commodore...

i never noticed any differences. ok yeah the NES sprites are bigger, ok.
but white has umbrella? black has knife? no, both of them had black sticks xD
and the umbrella was some sort of useless item you could get.
i played both again, but both versions are equal.
it's not like you're going to miss something when you only know one version. i would take the nes version coz it has a little better graphics.

I never realized that this was a game, back when the Mountain Dew Spy vs. Spy commmercials came out, now I know where they got that idea from. Man, and I thought it was quite an originial and fun set of commercials. But now I think I am more inclined to try the game!

This one is a classic, with a cool little soundtrack I never forget.
But beware: This is a game designed for two players.
If you play this alone, you will be bored very quick.
two players: 3 Stars
one player: 1 Star

Don't waste your cash, this was rubbish. Gets 1/5 from me and that is simply for the multiplayer. This is one of the worst games i ever played; Nintendo should give me Wii points for downloading it!

@ romanista: france must have some crazy off the wall slang, because from what i understood you to say, it came out totally hilarious and raunchy and made me ROTFLMAO(unintentional, i'm sure.. just giving you a hard time
i love the spy for spy comic strip, i have a big collector's book compiling every one of them drawn by it's original creator, sergio aragones. as for the game? can't vouch for it at all, never played it, but one could certainly make a fun little game (maybe like bomberman, setting traps and stuff) off this franchise..

been 2 years since Spy vs Spy was rated by USK (German Ratings). Don't know why it's not released along with Dragon Slayer for TG-CD.

I remember the SMS version fondly. The traps were great (my favorite was the gun trap!), and there was nothing quite like a heated match with a second player. Maybe until that one's out I'll give this a try. Assuming it does see release anytime soon.

I would rather see the C64 version, because on C64 it was a trilogy.
The first was in a house, the second on an jungle island and the third was on the northpole. Also on C64 the music was better.

Another game that's taking too long to be released. Also, the video doesn't work right.
