This side-scrolling shooter includes a total of six scenes spanning areas from Earth to the moon. The story begins with a comet discovered in the vicinity of Pluto that is headed on a sudden collision course with Earth. Mankind narrowly succeeds in diverting the comet's course, and it crashes into the moon.

I like this game, it was fun. The graphics are not the best but hey it's only $6.

If I've never played a shmup before (honestly, I own over 250 games from NES to Wii, and have never picked one up), would this be a decent starting place? Undemanding sounds pretty appealing right about now.

Welcome to the world of the shmup. Trust us and you will be spared much pain trying out shmups which are below par. Try out Soldier Blade on the TG-16, that's a great shooter. Or R-Type on the TG-16 is an entertaining blast.
I'm not saying don't buy Dead Moon, just try the others first lest you get put off the genre!

link64 - it's not too hard, but then again blazing lazers and air zonk aren't particulary hard either. I would choose either one of them over this. It isn't a bad game, it just lacks a certain something!
