Ordyne (TG-16)

Game Profile

Ordyne is a side-scrolling arcade shooter that includes simultaneous 2-player co-op play as well as impressive visuals and catchy background music. The evil Kubota has kidnapped Dr. Tomari's fiancee Kana and taken the colossal nuclear reactor Ordyne. In order to reclaim them, Dr. Tomari and his assistant Felix take to their battleships and head in pursuit.

Avoid enemies and advance through 7 different levels that take place on land, sea, and air. Collect Crystals from defeated enemies and use them to buy items or upgrades for your ship at the Space Inn. Do you have what it takes to defeat the boss at the end of each level and ultimately reach Kubota in the final stage?

For those who have never come across this gem in Namco's history Ordyne is a cutesy horizontal scrolling shoot-em-up in the vein of Konami's Paradious. It's a lot more obscure than it ought to be as in fact it was quite a novel game at the time.You're..

Is this game 2 players at the same time? How many of the scrolling shooters like this on the VC offer cooperative play?

Don't forget about Gunstar Heroes, that's a fun 2p coop shooter...

I'd say Gunstar Heroes and Contra III fall into different categories. Still both excellent 2 player games.

this was a blast back in the day on the TG-16. especially fun playing 2 player co-op! i really enjoyed this. it was a fun break from the overly serious shooters out there and it has co-op. the special weapons in the shop were neat too!

This game is okay for what it is. It's got its own kinda rythym. Actually I feel like playing right now, just thinking about it! Maybe it's better than okay. But for a cutesy sorta game it's deceptively hard! That's okay, I like it! Hopefully you guys'll get it soon!

I still enjoy this game. I drag my PC Engine version out from time to time just for a quick play through. It's not as easy as it looks! :)
